Always wondering and never knowing. The pandemic has created a constant questioning of what is going on, where we are, and when life will return to normal. But what is normal?
I hear many clients yearn for their old life back and a return to pre-pandemic times.
As I reflect on these concerns, I wonder if there Is a possibility to return to pre-pandemic norms and if so, is it truly desirable?
Yes the pandemic has impacted our lives drastically and in many cases tragically. These past months have unleashed new levels of anxiety, depression, and suicidality. At the same time, we have learned new ways of coping and relating to each other. I cannot help but feel gratitude for the ways in which we have found resilience and connection albeit through tragedy.
Could it be that some good has come out of this global pandemic? Is it okay to accept that we can continue to learn and expand and find the good in the hardest of circumstances?
I am compelled to argue that YES. We can find ourselves in a better place with new tools and practices that make us more resilient. Going back is not advisable and likely not an option. So, let’s look at what we have learned, what has worked, and ways we can incorporate new routines and behaviors going forward. Let’s take what we have learned from the pandemic and put it towards a better future for all of us.
Over the next few reflections I plan to share some positive outcomes that have surfaced over the past 18 months.
